The prestige of Michelin star ratings has helped many restaurants and their head chefs jump into fame. While cookbooks and some kitchen essentials, such as a knife, spatula, and cooking pan can help create a delicious meal, it is interesting to see what some of the best chefs in the world do in their kitchen.
Thomas Keller Thomas Keller, 59, has been known in the restaurant world as one of the best for over a decade. His restaurant The French Laundry is located in Napa Valley, California, and has been awarded three Michelin stars every year since 2006. Thomas Keller’s cooking style utilizes local ingredients like Brussels sprouts and scallops cooked with a French twist. His dishes are characterized by his attention to detail.
René Redzepi, at age 37, is one of the world’s best-known chefs and co-owner of Noma, located in Copenhagen. Noma has been awarded two Michelin stars and has been named the best restaurant in the world by other restaurant guide books. René Redzepi is known for his reinvention of Nordic cuisine. His dishes are often considered simple but original. His restaurant is known for serving a feast of small portions, including unique items like moss and beef tartare with ants.
Massimo Bottura is a 54 year old Italian chef. He is the chef patron of Osteria Francescana, a three star Michelin rated restaurant considered one of the best in the world for the last five years. Bottura’s restaurant is located in Modena, Italy. He is known for his avant-garde cooking style with outcomes that are strange but delicious. Some dishes that can be found on his menu include foie gras and ice cream, as well as traditional dishes like tortellini in Parmesan sauce.
Daniel Humm, 39, is a Swiss chef located in New York City. He runs two restaurants, Eleven Madison Park and Nomad, the latter of which has been awarded three Michelin stars. Humm is known for simple, local ingredients and seasonal flavors. His restaurants are also known to have out-of-the-box service that includes magic tricks. Some of his dishes allow the diner to construct the dish to their own taste.

Momofuku Ko in New York City has been awarded two Michelin stars. He has a pan-asian cooking style which utilizes French techniques.
Grant Achatz, an American chef, runs Alinea in Chicago, a three Michelin star rated restaurant. Achatz applies molecular gastronomy while cooking. He is known for unique presentation and inventive foods, like an edible balloon made from dehydrated fruit filled with helium.
The famous French chef Pierre Gagnaire runs the Pierre Gagnaire Restaurant in Paris, which has won three Michelin stars. He offers fusion cuisine, inventive food, and exceptional service in his restaurants.
Masa Takayama, a Japanese chef, owns Masa in New York City. He is well-known for his sushi. Masa only offers omakase style at his restaurant, meaning what the guests eat is the decision of the chef. He includes seasonal ingredients and flies his fish in from Japan.
Narisawa is Yoshihiro’s restaurant in Japan, and has been awarded two Michelin stars. Yoshihiro Narisawa was trained in Europe and blends French techniques with fine Japanese ingredients. His food is heavily influenced by nature and captures this aesthetic.
Ramsay, originally from Scotland, has been awarded a total of fifteen Michelin stars over time. He combines French, Italian, and British cooking styles. Ramsay is well-known for his books and television shows.
